A quiet day in Blois

Day 15

We stayed up late last night to see the sound and light show at the Blois chateau.  It didn't start until 10:30 as it stays light here until late.  I was suprised when we came to the end of our street to see that it was busy with people out for dinner and having a drink so late on a Tuesday night. But it was a hot day and a balmy night so everyone was out enjoying themselves.  Our apartment is in the middle of old historic quarter so all the shops, bars and tourist attractions are within walking distance.

The sound and light show was excellent - they told stories of the inhabitants over the last 500 years including their most famous visitors - Joan of Arc and Catherine of Medici.  To complement the stories they projected pictures and decorations onto the chateau transforming its facade entirely.  It was quite an amazing performance and Holly thoroughly enjoyed the gruesome stories.  James and Emma both dropped off to sleep despite their best efforts to stay awake.

After a busy couple of days the children were keen to have a quiet day so today we headed out this morning to get a new SIM for my phone.   Those roaming charges from NZ aren't to bad, on the face of it, but I seem to get charged 2-3x for each text message I send and the 2.80 per minute for a call soon adds up if you are put on hold.  Therefore I have opted for a new SIM with a french number for the rest of the trip.

After lunch we headed to the local natural history museum.  Nothing grand but it did amuse the children for an hour or so.  We came across a promotion for the local tennis tournament being held in a week's time.  They had set up an impromptu court in the town square and the children got to have a game for a while.  After that they had a well earned icecream/slushy for their afternoon tea.

It is gorgeous and warm again today.  That lovely continental heat that is perfect for relaxing and people watching.  The building that Holly is standing on below is our home for the week.  Very old and gorgeous on the outside and super modern inside..

    1. Happy birthday Uncle Mike. Children most amused at the idea of Olivia making a mess with her dinner.

  2. Thanks for the postcard. You will be glad you are missing our frosts, some heavy ones this last week but they have been followed by some beautiful sunny days.
