MIDDLE AGE CASTLES AND 1KM GARDENS!!!!!!

James writes
Day 23

Today we went to a medieval castle up on a hill. The castle had big walls surrounding it because it was made to stand lots of wars.

This castle was all about weapons and war. There was a room with cross-bows, there were at least 20 on display. There were 2 other rooms with weapons. One had swords, the swords in the glass case were super sharp. The other room had cannons, one was gold it had carvings it said "I eat powder  and I spit fire''.

The castle was being added to over its 800 year history.  They built an extra platform on the hill to put catapults to protect their northern side.  That is where a lot of the attacks were coming.  There were three catapaults on show. In the ammunition slinger they put stone ball bigger than a head.  It took at least 3 men to work the catapault.

There was also a lot of armour in the castle.  They had one knight on a stuffed horse.  The armour looked very heavy.  The helmets would have been hard to see out of and to breath in.  It would not have been very comfortable to ride your horse in all that armour.

After the castle we drove to some nearby gardens which were 1km in length.  There were two playgrounds and a massive maze for kids.  When you were walking around there were pictures of fairies, unicorns and dragons.  The gardens was mostly trees and hedges so the gardeners would never stop trimming.  The hedges were trimmed into really perfect shapes such as rounds or rectangles.
