The Eiffel Tower

Day 20 (His Day 3)

We started the day by going to the Eiffel Tower. To get there we took the metro in rush hour. Being squashed in like sardines brought back memories of working in London many years ago. Everywhere you go here means going through a security check with bag scanner, which means going through a security queue to get to the ticket queue to then get to the entry queue. Eventually we climbed the Eiffel Tower, taking the stairs for the first two levels followed by a lift. Awesome views around Paris.

Afterwards we met Joy, our former au pair. The kids were extremely excited and the wait was killing them. Had coffee, hot chocolates and  fancy pastries.

We went to see the catacombs but unfortunately many things are closed on Mondays, as we found on arrival. Instead we went for a walk around the 15th Arrondisement. Inner suburban Paris. Of course Theresa had the obligatory "I could live here".

Quick dinner then beers at Irish bar to watch Ireland vs Sweden. Euro 2016 is big news here but not so big that it is in your face - you still have to go looking for it. Leaving Paris tomorrow so packing while watching a man go ballistic on his phone across the street. If only the person on the other end could see all his gestures they might just get the point.
